Well, it looks like Shiva had quite the transformation! He started out as Rudra, a minor Vedic deity. But then he got mixed up with a non-Aryan deity and things went downhill fast. He was known for causing trouble and being a meat-eater - not exactly the kind of guy you’d want to hang around with. Thankfully, the Brahminical tradition stepped in and tamed him down.
