Back away slowly, don’t make eye contact and don’t run! If the bear stands up or moves closer, it’s probably just trying to get a better look or sniff out something. It’s usually not a sign of aggression. But if you corner a black bear, it might do a “bluff charge” - that’s when it looks like it’s attacking but really isn’t.
