Yearly, you should mulch your plants with either wood chips or partially composted sawdust. Make sure to keep a 4-foot wide strip at least 6 inches deep. For tree fruit like apples, pears, peaches, plums and cherries, mulch the drip line with 6 to 8 inches of straw or hay in May. Easy peasy!
